Centered Composition

This is a photography assignment on centered composition.  Centered composition can sometimes be very boring, but it can work very well with things that have radial symmetry or are the same on both sides when cut down the center. I hope these pictures aren't too boring :)

This is my piano. Her name is Everett. 

This is an old clock on our mantle with candles on either side. 

This is a chandelier in my dining room...looks pretty fancy, but it's not in real life. I like this photo in black and white. Aaaand...I don't know what else to say about this assignment. The End

Derivative Lite

For this photo assignment, we had to research a photographer and try to recreate some of their works. I chose Jim Brandenburg because i like his photography, which is mostly set in nature similar to that of central Wisconsin, where I live. 

This first picture is called wet rocks....

My rocks have more color throughout, which could be distracting, and there are more jagged edges in these rocks. Also, they are too close up...but it's hard to tell some of these things without the original pictures in front of you while you shoot.

In this Brandenburg photo, a deer was just recently killed by a hunter. He tried to capture the light and innocence left in the deer's eye, even after being brutally killed.

In the photo I tried to recreate, the deer was  killed by a car.....but it was definitely not recently! This deer had been on the side of the road for a while! So this isn't a very good demonstration of any life at all....maybe if I find some fresh road-kill I'll log back on and hopefully make this photo a little less grotesque.

This set of photos is my favorite. Brandenburg made a photo of a deer killed by a wolf, but to detract from the gruesome aspect of the picture, he wanted to focus on an evergreen branch to make the picture more about life than death. I tried to do the same thing...but it was hard to find a deer killed by a wolf...so I used road kill...a little less bloody, but the same basic idea.

Seeing Differently

This is a photo assignment on seeing things differently....so before I tell you what everything is, how 'bout you take a guess.

Alright, now that you've had some time to look these over, I'll tell you what they are. The first photo is a shot from the bottom of my electric guitar (her name is Dabney). She's an Epiphone Les Paul that I got from my brother's friend from when they used to be in a band together. I like the colors of the strings, but the walls in my bedroom, where I took this picture, are green, so it puts a greenish color reflecting off the body of the guitar.

The second photo is the speaker attached to my computer. I thought the little sign there was interesting...mostly because I'm not sure if it's supposed to mean something or not. Also, I like the texture.

The last picture is my stovetop. It shows curved lines, and I like that at first it's hard to tell exactly what it is. 

Replace the Sky

This was an assignment to make a photo of a landscape and of a sky, and replace the sky of the landscape with the sky of the other picture. It was a challenge that taught me a lot about Photoshop! And yes....I know that  it doesn't match up very well...but it was extremely hard to find a good picture to take because it was so gray and dreary all week! So, even if this picture is a failure, I learned a lot along the way. The landscape was taken on the way back from the dentist (the only time I saw any sort of sunset in the past couple weeks) and the sky was taken on my way to snowboard instruct at our local ski hill.

Animal morphs :D

This was our assignment on Animal Morphs! We had to put our eyes and mouths onto an animal. I don't have any animals, so I went over to a friend's house and took pictures of his pets. His dog Ernie and his gecko (who's name I forget). The eyes and mouths weren't taken together, but mismatched from a whole schwack of different pictures. My favorite is the lizard because the shadows and the way things fit almost make it look realistic, despite it's comical look.....I don't know about you...but I wish it existed! :) Thank you photoshop for providing me with all the entertainment I could ever need and then some! :) Hope you enjoy these!

Definately the cutest animals i've ever seen ;) not to be bias.... :D

This is a photo assignment on shadows. The first picture is of some roses that my daddy got for my mom on Valentines Day. I like the color of the roses and how it fades to black and white. I also like the different shapes of the shadow because of the multiple lights above it.

 

This picture was taken as I was snowboarding down my favorite run, Death Valley, at my favorite ski hill, Bruce Mound, after snowboard instructing.  I like the motion that the blur gives to the photo.

This is my friend Mary trying to snowplow down the hill so i could get a picture! after a lot of trial and error (and a LOT of blurry pictures) i got this one. I like how because of the slow shudder speed, everything looks like it's doubled.

Different Light

For this assignment, we had to take pictures of the same subjects in different types of light at different times of day.  Here are my two favorite sets of photos: a wind chime and a street lamp.

Morning

Afternoon: I like how blue the sky is in this picture, and the texture of the clouds. 

Evening: similar to morning, but there's more of a shine on the right side of the chimes, where the soon setting sun is hitting them.

Afternoon: Again, I liked the blue sky and thin clouds in the background. 

Evening: In this photo, the light is very very blue just after the sun set, but unlike the last photo, where the background, the sky, is blue, the whole photo has a blue tint.

I really liked this assignment because it made me focus on the best time to make a picture, but it was also very difficult to get the angles right, and to watch the same subject until the light is perfect. I think for the most part they turned out well (certainly better than my last assignment!) :)
